Automatic dictation modes

What a dictation mode does

A Mode rewrites microphone text after transcription and before delivery. An active mode takes priority over microphone translation. WhisperARC includes editable Mail, Message and Code modes, and custom modes can be linked to Windows apps.

Modes apply to both Hold and Activate / stop dictation. System-audio captures and imported files do not use them. Default skips rewriting when no app association matches; microphone translation and spellings still apply when enabled.

An app association is used only when an editable field has focus in that app. If the app cannot be identified, the field is read-only, or associations conflict, WhisperARC uses the default mode. One app cannot belong to two associations.

Create and select a mode

1. Open Mode in the sidebar. Edit Mail, Message or Code, or select Add to create an app association.
2. Enter a name and instructions, then choose at least one Windows app for a new association. Save the changes.
3. Focus an editable field in one of those apps and start a microphone recording. WhisperARC captures the matching instructions when recording starts.
4. Dictate normally and review the rewritten result before using it.
5. Edit or delete any mode when needed. Removing all apps from an existing association keeps its instructions for manual selection. The tray menu offers Default and modes without app associations.

Processing and fallback

Local Mode uses the Qwen model selected under Model > Local > Assistant and is available on every plan. Cloud uses the shared paid credits. OpenAI KEY uses the selected OpenAI Assistant model and your own OpenAI account, without consuming WhisperARC credits.

The Assistant adds processing time and can change wording or meaning. If rewriting fails or the input exceeds its supported size, WhisperARC delivers the text from before the Assistant step. Keep instructions focused and check names, numbers and important details.
